With vast open areas, high wind potential, access to transmission lines, and support for renewable energy projects, the EnergyPlex can support the development of large wind projects.

The EnergyPlex is home to Wild Cat Wind/Exelon wind project that provides over 20MW of wind generation to Lea County Electric Cooperative, the local electric cooperative.

Support for wind projects can be evidenced by the State of New Mexico’s renewable portfolio standards requiring utilities to generate part of their retail sales from renewable energy sources and alternative energy tax credit incentive programs.

“Studies show this part of New Mexico is better than west Texas for wind. There is massive energy potential here.”
